This position has a special minimum hiring rate of $54,766.40. In addition, this position may qualify for 7% pay increases at 2, 5, 10 and 15 years of service in the series. Qualified candidates may also qualify for relocation assistance.
Nature of Work
The Forensic Analyst 4 position performs high complexity analysis of forensic samples to include HS-GC/FID, GC/MS, UV/Vis spectrophotometry, LC/MS/MS, and LC-TOF. This position performs chemical separations of biological samples in preparation for analysis on the indicated instrumentation to include liquid/liquid, solid-phase, and dilute-and-shoot extractions.
The incumbent prepares buffer solutions, solvents, and reagents and performs analyses on samples properly accessioned into the OCME Forensic Toxicology Laboratory with direction from the Forensic Pathologist assigned to the case or in accordance with instructions from the Chief Toxicologist. The results of these analyses are provided to the Forensic Pathologist for interpretation and utilization in the determination of cause and manner of death for their respective cases.
This position must maintain the highest level of proficiency on all instrumentation, maintain a complete understanding of various and/or emerging methodologies, and maintain the ability to perform all functions associated with the Forensic Analyst 1, Forensic Analyst 2, and Forensic Analyst 3 classifications assigned to the OCME.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with a major in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, forensic sciences, natural sciences, or related field.
Training Substitution for Firearms Section Only: Four years of experience as a qualified forensic laboratory firearms examiner may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
Experience: Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a Forensic Analyst.
Substitution: A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in forensic science or related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
